ASTM A572/A572M-21 High-Strength Low-Alloy Columbium-Vanadium Structural Steel
Five classes of high-strength low-alloy structural steel forms, plates, sheet piling, and bars are covered by ASTM A572/A572M-21. The grades 42 (290), 50 (345), and 55 (380) are for riveted, bolted, or welded buildings, respectively. The grades 60 (415) and 65 (450) are designed for riveted or bolted bridge construction. The final results of this method are displayed keeping in view the international standards and inch-pound units.
Scope:
ASTM A572/A572M-21 test method covers the properties of high-strength low-alloy columbium-vanadium structural steel. The method proceeds with the quality check, heat treatment, and the testing of the chemical composition of materials. The results obtained from this method help in quality control, research, and performance evaluation of structural steel such as steel sheets (Figure 1). The use of the sample in the construction of buildings and bridges is studied.

Procedure:
The specimen is manufactured as per the specified measurements and limits are specified for the chemical composition of the material. The analysis is done in accordance with the agreement between the purchaser and the producer. Tensile strength is measured, and heat treatment is applied. The mechanical properties and interlock strength are observed. The method also covers the packaging and certification.
Specimen Size:
Specimen size should be as per the requirements, for Grade 50 (345) steel of thicknesses 3⁄4 in. (20 mm) and less, the tensile strength shall be a minimum of 70 ksi (485 MPa).
Data:
The method covers the certification, sampling, testing, and inspection of the specimen within the set limits.
