Scope:

ASTM D5800 is highly significant in terms of determining evaporation loss of lubricating oils particularly of engine lubrication. Evaporation may contribute to oil consumption in an engine and can lead to a change in the properties of oil.

Procedure:

The sample in the ASTM D5800 test procedures is placed in an evaporation crucible flask. The sample is heated to 250 °C with a constant flow of air drawn through it.
