Scope:
ASTM D6834-02 test method estimates the ability of a pump dispenser to seal when the packaging is held under a vacuum. It evaluates the seal between the pump dispenser and the container neck.
Test Procedure:
In ASTM D6834-02 two methods performed for product leakage tests are (a) with vibration testing and (b) without vibration testing of a mechanical pump dispenser package. In the first method, the actual liquid-filled bottle for the final package is attached to a mechanical pump dispenser. The test is performed under the vacuum chamber with absorbent paper. The absorbent paper helps to identify any leakage during the test. In the second method, the liquid-filled containers are placed in an appropriate carton. The vibration test is performed for 20min each on the bottom, top, and one side to identify the leakage.
Specimen size:
A container (actual bottle for final package) to which the pump dispenser is attached during the test.
Data:
Vacuum Chamber, with a minimum capacity of 200mbar (147 mm Hg).
