COMPRESSION & DEFLECTION

Compression and deflection testing is a key component of many materials testing programs. The purpose of this testing is to determine the performance of materials under a range of compression forces and to measure the ability of the material to maintain its elastic properties after being subjected to a compressive force. Compressive forces can range from low to high, depending on the requirements set by the customer. The material thickness is measured before and after compression, and a force stress/strain curve can be recorded.

Compression stress relaxation (CSR) and continuous compression stress relaxation (CCSR) are two types of tests that are performed to measure the performance of a material over time when subjected to a compressive force. During CSR testing, the material is subjected to an applied load for a set period of time, and the force is monitored over the course of the test. CCSR testing involves continuously monitoring the force as the material is exposed to a compressive force over a longer period of time. Results from these tests can provide valuable insights into how a material will perform in various environments and under a range of compressive forces.
