AIR AGING

Air aging is a process of heat and oxidation that can cause changes to a material’s physical and chemical characteristics. This type of testing is done on rubber, latex, and plastic products to help understand how these goods will perform under certain conditions. The process involves exposing the material or product to high temperatures in an air oven.

The material is first tested for parameters such as tensile strength, hardness, specific gravity, and geometry. After the air aging process, the samples are tested again to see if the material’s physical and chemical characteristics have changed in any way. This type of testing is often done with the Standard Test Procedure for Rubber-Deterioration in an Air Oven for Air Aging as outlined by ASTM D 573.

Air aging is a valuable tool for measuring the performance of materials and products with high temperatures. It can be used to determine how a product or material will act in the field, and if the physical and chemical characteristics will change over time. This kind of testing is done in order to improve the quality of materials and products and ensure that they are able to withstand the conditions of their intended use.
