Wind and Rain Testing
Wind and rain testing is an important part of determining the effectiveness of waterproof cases, covers, and seals in protecting materials from water damage. According to MIL-STD 810 Method 506, wind and rain tests, blowing rain tests, and wind-driven rain tests can measure a material’s performance before and after exposure to water, as well as the efficiency of any water removal systems.
In the environment, wind and rain can cause damage to radio communication, reduce aircraft operations, and impair visibility. In-flight aircraft can suffer damage, and optical device visibility may be restricted. After impact, surfaces erode, and following a deposition or penetration, materials may become weaker or swell, and corrosion, erosion, or microbial growth can occur. Electrical or electronic equipment may stop functioning or become dangerous, and inside-freezing material can result in delayed degradation or malfunction.
Overall, wind and rain testing help determine a material’s protection, assess any potential damage, and measure the effectiveness of a material’s waterproofing systems. It is a critical part of assessing and protecting against the effects of wind and rain.
