Leeb Hardness Testing of Steel Products

LEEB HARDNESS TESTING OF STEEL PRODUCTS

The Leeb hardness test is a superficial evaluation that simply assesses the state of the contacted surface. The outcomes produced there do not correspond to the component at any other surface locations and provide no insight into the substance at subsurface locations.

This test technique includes procedures for the verification of Leeb hardness testing equipment as well as the calibration of standardized test blocks. It is used to determine the Leeb hardness of steel, cast steel, and cast iron.

The values provided in either SI units or inch-pound units should be treated as standards independently. Because the values provided in each system are not necessarily exact equivalents, each system must be utilized separately from the other, and values from the two systems cannot be combined, to comply with the standard.

This standard does not guarantee that using it will eliminate all or even most safety concerns. The user of this standard shall adopt adequate safety, health, and environmental practices and shall before use determine the application of any regulatory constraints.

Conclusion:

The Leeb hardness test is a useful method for assessing the hardness of steel products quickly and non-destructively. The test involves striking the surface of the material with an impact body and measuring the rebound velocity to determine the hardness value. The Leeb hardness test is widely used in the steel industry due to its simplicity, portability, and ability to produce quick results.
