Intergranular Corrosion (IGC) Testing Services

Written by Rahul Verma | Updated: September 24, 2025

The screening of a material’s corrosion resistance can be done effectively using the Intergranular Corrosion Testing (IGC) or Intergranular Attack (IGA) test. We can give vital information regarding the corrosion resistance of metals to prevent failures in the field using a range of methodologies, such as ASTM A 262, ASTM G28, and ASTM 763.

The deterioration of metallic materials at their grain boundaries as a result of exposure to a corrosive environment is known as intergranular corrosion. Prior heat processing and welding, known as sensitization, can affect the resistance of some stainless steels to IGC. Intergranular corrosion can weaken a material over time, leading to flaws or even catastrophic failures, even if the damage isn’t immediately apparent.

Evaluation of Intergranular Corrosion (IGC)

Testing for intergranular corrosion is one method used by Infinita Lab to identify flawed batches and identify places where processing could be improved. We conduct intergranular corrosion tests on a variety of metals, including stainless steel (austenitic, duplex, and ferritic grades), nickel alloys, and aluminum alloys, using a number of different chemicals and test conditions.

The Benefit of Intergranular Corrosion Testing

We are the ideal partner for your intergranular corrosion testing program due to our extensive experience in corrosion testing, failure analysis, and the testing of material properties across a wide range of industries. The intergranular corrosion resistance of your material can be evaluated with the help of our engaged experts, who have years of experience working with metallic materials.
