ISO 11358

ISO 11358 is an important standard that provides guidelines for the determination of the thermal properties of polymers using various techniques, including Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). TGA is a common technique used to measure the thermal stability of polymers.

The ISO 11358 standard guides the sample preparation, handling, and testing conditions for TGA analysis. TGA measures the weight of a sample as it is heated or cooled under controlled conditions. By measuring the weight loss or gain of the sample as a function of temperature, TGA can determine the thermal stability and degradation behavior of the polymer material.

TGA analysis using ISO 11358 is useful for a wide range of applications in the polymer industry. For example, TGA can be used to determine the thermal stability of a polymer material during processing or use. It can also be used to evaluate the effectiveness of additives, such as flame retardants, in enhancing the thermal stability of a polymer.

TGA analysis can also be used to determine the degradation behavior of a polymer material. This information is important for predicting the useful life of the material under different conditions. TGA analysis can also be used to evaluate the effect of environmental factors, such as moisture or oxygen, on the thermal stability of the material.

The ISO 11358 standard provides guidance on the interpretation of TGA data, including the determination of onset and peak temperatures, as well as the calculation of activation energy and reaction kinetics. This information is useful for understanding the thermal behaviour of a polymer material and for predicting its performance under different conditions.
