Scope:

ASTM D6653/D6653M is ideal for determining how high altitude affects packaging methods. This technique is utilized in the development and engineering of packaging items at heights for either packages or products, or both.

Procedure:

In ASTM D6653/D6653M the specimen is placed within the chamber. The chamber is closed, the outlet is opened and the vacuum supply is switched on so the gauge rises at an approximate rate. Further, pressure is attained at 877 m. The vacuum is maintained for sixty minutes. The chamber is opened partially and the vacuum is unleashed at a rate of roughly 305 m. The chamber’s inlet is opened and the specimen is observed and examined for any harm or deformation. The results of the examination are recorded.

Specimen size:

An assembled packaging system, indicative of a production run package, or components of associate degree assembled packaging must be included in the ASTM D6653/D6653M specimen

Results

The findings aid in determining whether the pressure differential had an impact on the packing system’s performance. For comparison functions, it is recommended to verify a replacement check specimen with an identical packaged-product performance test that is not based on altitude conditioning.

Conclusion:

ASTM D6653/D6653M is ideal for determining how high altitude affects packaging methods.
