Scope
This ASTM E1447 test procedure is used to ensure that compositional specifications are met. It is assumed that everyone who uses this test procedure is a trained analyst capable of completing the task. skillfully and safely perform common laboratory procedures. It is expected that the task would be completed in a professional manner in a well-equipped laboratory
Procedure
The apparatus used for the ASTM E1447 test is assembled and conditioned according to the requirements. The analyzer is toggled to the operational mode. A specimen is prepared as specified and placed in a container. It is then put in the loading zone device. The manual of the instrument is referred to, if the apparatus does not have this feature. The procedure is specified by the manufacturer for the entry of the sample. The sample weight is filled. On the furnace electrode/pedestal assembly, a crucible holding high-purity tin is placed. The furnace is turned off. The analyzing process is started to calculate the results.
Specimen size
The specimen used in the ASTM E1447 test must be sized between 0.15 g to 0.30 g
Data
Hydrogen percentage = (A- B) X C /D
Where:
A = sample digital voltmeter (DVM) reading
B = blank DVM reading
C = weight compensator setting
and D = sample weight, g
Conclusion:
The test method ASTM E1447 is used to determine hydrogen concentrations in titanium and titanium alloys ranging from 0.0006 percent to 0.0260 percent.
