    Scope:

    ASTM C690 for the particle size distribution uses electrical current for the test. It determines the particle size distribution for material specification. Material development in the glass and watches industry, manufacturing control, and development and research. Test results are equally necessary for both the seller and buyers of alumina quartz powders.

    Procedure:

    ASTM C690 test is performed using an electrical sensing zone particle counter, coulter counter, and aperture tubes with diameters ranging from 30 to 140 μm. The test is performed with a carefully dispersed, dilute powder suspension in a beaker filled with an electrolyte placed on the stand. Each particle passes and generates an electrical pulse that is recorded on an electrical counter. The instrument which ASTM C690 uses is a small-diameter electric current router that is regulated by individual particles. Via an aperture, it generates individual pulses with amplitude proportional to particle volume.
