ASTM E1659-12 Method for Coating Mass and Chemical Analysis of Zinc-Nickel Alloy Electrolytically Coated on Steel Sheet
ASTM E1659-12 test method determines the chemical analysis on coating mass and zinc-nickel alloy electrolytically coated on Steel Sheet. These test methods must be applied twice, once to each side of the specimen if coating mass and composition to both sides of a coated sheet is to be determined. Two separate specimens are required to perform the test.
Scope:
ASTM E1659-12 test method covers independently the chemical analysis of each surface of zinc-nickel alloy electrolytically coated on a steel sheet. ASTM E1659-12 performs by two test procedure methods:-
1. A procedure for determining the independent mass of coating on each surface of zinc-nickel alloy-coated sheet steel, in coating masses from 20 to 45 g/m2 with a concentration range of 0.0 to 80 g/m2 of coating mass.
2. A procedure to determine nickel in zinc-nickel coatings with a concentration range of 7.0 to 17.0 % of nickel.

Nickel by the Atomic Absorption Method
21-31
Test Specimen:
Zinc-nickel alloy coated sheets in squares with sides of 50 ± 5 mm are used in the ASTM E1659-12 test method.
Data:
Calculate the mass of the zinc-nickel alloy coating in the ASTM E1659-12 test method as follows:
M = [(W1 – W2) – (E/1000)]
where:
M = mass of stripped coating, g,
W1 = original mass of specimen, g,
W2 = weight of stripped specimen, g, and
E = iron stripped, mg.
Calculate the percent nickel as follows:
Nickel, % = 0.2N M
where:
0.2 = constant with dimensions of gL/mg,
M = mass of stripped coating, g, from 18.1, and
N = nickel concentration read by the instrument, mg/L.
Conclusion:
ASTM E1659-12 provides detailed information of chemical analysis for each surface of zinc-nickel alloy electrolytically coated on a steel sheet.
ASTM E572 test method covers the analysis of stainless and alloy steels by Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (WDXRF). It provides rapid, multi-element determinations with sufficient accuracy to assure product quality.
The ASTM D2674 test is a standard test method for the analysis of sulfochromate etch solutions used in the surface preparation of aluminum. The ASTM D2674 standard specifies a method for determining the efficacy of an etchant used to prepare the surface of aluminum alloys for subsequent adhesive bonding.
An immunological method for quantization of Hevea Natural Rubber (HNRL) proteins using rabbit anti-HNRL serum. Rabbits immunized with HNRL proteins react to the majority of the proteins present, and their sera have the capability to detect most if not all the proteins in HNRL.
ASTM G65 measures the resistance of metallic materials to abrasion using the dry sand/rubber wheel apparatus. The quality, durability, and toughness of the sample are determined using this test. Metallic materials are ranked in their resistance to scratching abrasion under a controlled environment.
ASTM E2141 test methods provide accelerated aging and monitoring of the performance of time-dependent electrochromic devices (ECD) integrated in insulating glass units (IGU). This test helps to understand the relative serviceability of electrochromic glazings applied on ECD.
ASTM C724 test method is used in analyzing the quality and ease of maintenance of a ceramic decoration on architectural-type glass. This test method is useful in the acknowledgment of technical standards.
