Scope:
The ASTM E1477 test procedure is used to determine the luminous reflectance factor. Acoustical materials are frequently used to cover the whole ceiling of a space, making them an important part of the lighting system.
Procedure:
In ASTM E1477, standard color-measurement procedures are used to determine the (total) luminous reflectance factor of test specimens using a spectrophotometer, tristimulus (filter) colorimeter, or other reflectometer using a hemispherical optical measuring instrument, such as an integrating sphere. The CIE tristimulus value Y for the CIE 1964 (10°) standard observer and CIE standard illuminant D65 (daylight) or F2 (cool white fluorescent) is used to compute the luminance reflectance factor.
Specimen size:
For ASTM E1477, each test specimen may be needed to meet the ±0.1 unit of Y tentative tolerance.
Data:
Luminous Reflectance Factor is calculated as follows:
LRV= Y value
LRV =luminous reflectance value
Y = tristimulus value
Conclusion:
The luminous reflectance factor of the acoustical materials is measured by using this ASTM E1477 test method. Also, through this method room illumination is also forecasted.
