Scope:
ASTM D7834 is a highly reliable method for determining the shedding properties of paint brushes. During the process of coatings, paint brushes display the shedding of filling material on coated surfaces. A measure of this shedding filling material determines the paint brush’s ability to resist shedding during application.
Procedure:
In ASTM D7834, the paintbrush is gripped over the paper with the filling material facing downward. During the process of coatings, the paint brush exhibits the shedding of filling material on the coated area, and the measure of this shedded filling material measures the resistance of the brush against shedding.
Specimen details:
The specimen is gripped over the paper at an angle of 45° and at a distance of 5 to 6 in. (127 to 152.4 mm).
Result:
In this way, ASTM D7834 determines the shedding properties of filling materials such as natural bristle and synthetic filament paint brushes.
