ASTM D7834-13 Standard Test Method for Filling Material Shedding of Paint Brushes

ASTM D7834-13 explains the method for testing the shedding properties of filling materials such as natural bristle and synthetic filament paintbrushes. This method determines the ability of paintbrushes against the shedding process. SI units are not considered as standard units however, values are stated in inch-pound units.

    Scope:

    ASTM D7834-13 is a highly reliable method in determining the shedding properties of paintbrushes. During the process of coatings, paintbrushes display the shedding of filling material on coated surfaces. A measure of this shedding filling material determines the paint brush’s ability to resist shedding during application.

    Procedure:

    The paintbrush is gripped over the paper with the filling material facing downward. During the process of coatings, the paintbrush exhibits the shedding of filling material on the coated area, and that measure of this shedding filling material measures the resistance of brush against shedding.

    Specimen details:

    The specimen is gripped over the paper at an angle of 45° and at a distance of 5 to 6 in. (127 to 152.4 mm).

    Result:
    In this way, ASTM D7834-13 determines the shedding properties of filling materials such as natural bristle and synthetic filament paintbrushes.
