Scope:
The ASTM D6777 test method determines the relative rigidity of vinyl siding panels which helps specify their application. The vinyl sidings with high rigidity value are relatively easier to install and have a straightening effect. The reliability and quality of these materials can be evaluated by using this test method.
Procedure:
The ASTM D6777 test specimen is measured and placed on a table with 50% of it extending without any support. In this way, it hangs on its weight. The sample’s stiffness index is computed based on the amount of sag that occurs due to it hanging freely. The mean specimen height is determined, and three consecutive readings are taken.
Specimen Size:
In the ASTM D6777 test, the specimen is taken as per the requirements. One hundred inches long piece of vinyl siding is taken for this method.
Data:
Sample deflection is calculated by subtracting the average mean specimen height from the table height. Then the sample deflection is subtracted from 100 to calculate the rigidity index.
