Scope:

ASTM A615/A615M test method covers the properties of steel bars. Steel bars with alloy additives, such as those found in the Association for Iron and Steel Technology and Society of Automotive Engineers series of alloy steels, are allowed if the finished product fits all of the other specifications. The results obtained from this method help in quality control, research, and performance evaluation of carbon-steel bars.

Procedure:

The ASTM A615/A615M specimen is manufactured as per the specified measurements, and limits are specified to test its performance. The specimen is observed for any deformation and its chemical composition is determined. The tensile properties of the bars are studied. The tension and bent tests are performed. The results are verified by retesting the sample and presented as per international standards.

Specimen detail:

Specimen size should be as per the requirements. In this case, bars are of four minimum yield strength levels: namely, 40 000 psi (280 MPa), 60 000 psi (420 MPa), 80 000 psi (550 MPa), and 100 000 psi (690 MPa).
