ASTM D1304 Adhesives Relative to their use as Electrical Insulator

Scope:

The ASTM D1304 is a standard test method for adhesives relative to their use as electrical insulation and cover procedures for testing adhesives in liquid, highly viscous, solid, or set states. 

As per the ASTM D1304 method, the electrically insulated adhesives have a wide range of applications due to their good adherence to a variety of substrates, excellent chemical and heat resistance, and long-term durability. Bonding, sealing, coating, and encapsulating/potting applications are all possible with it. It is normally preferable to have the highest insulating resistance feasible for these purposes while maintaining adequate mechanical, chemical, and heat-resistant qualities.

Procedure:

o Direct-Current Conductivity  
o Extract Conductivity  
o Acidity and Alkalinity  
o pH Value 

2. Procedures for Testing Properties of Adhesives As Used: 

o Power Factor and Dielectric Constant of a Dried or Cured Adhesive Film  o Dielectric Strength  
o Volume and Surface Resistivity 
o Arc Resistance

Specimen size:

For ASTM D1304, a sufficient representative sample of the adhesive to be tested should be stored at room temperature in a nearly full, tightly sealed container until required to avoid contamination or solvent escape. 

Data:

Complete identification of the adherend and adhesive materials tested, including adhesive type and the source is all reported at the end of all the ASTM D1304 test procedures.
