Scope:
The test procedures in ASTM C1341 applies primarily to all possible ceramic matrix composites along with continuous fiber reinforcements unidirectionally, bidirectionally, and tri-directionally, including other continuous fiber architectures. Additionally it can also be extended to glass matrix composites with continuous fiber reinforcements.
Test Procedure:
The tests explained in ASTM C1341 includes three major test geometries –
First involves using a three-point loading system which utilizes center point force application on a supported beam.
Next geometry explains a four-point loading system which utilizes two force application points that must be equally spaced from their adjacent support points. This uses the applied force as one-half of the support span.
Finally the third geometry is similar to the second geometry using a four-point loading system and utilizing two force application points that must be equally spaced from their adjacent support points. However, this uses the applied force as one-third of the support span.
Sample size:
The test specimen in ASTM C1341 must be a composite wherein the principal direction is identical with the axis of the beam.
Data:
Only the values expressed in SI units are considered to be standard. The ASTM C1341 test procedure does not include any other units.
Conclusion:
The test method in ASTM C1341 is used for material development, material flexural specifications, and quality control of ceramic composite specimens.
