Scope:

ASTM E 507-13 is considered as a referee method for compliance with compositional specifications for impurity content. It is often performed by trained analysts who perform common laboratory practices skillfully and safely. It is also expected that it is performed in a highly equipped laboratory, and a proper waste disposal system is to be followed.

Procedure:

The sample is first mixed in HCl and HNO3. Then it is evaporated and dehydrated so that any residue can be easily filtered, and then it is added into the main solution. The main solution is aspirated by the flame of a nitrous oxide-acetylene burner. The absorbed energy at the resonance line of the spectrum of aluminum is measured by atomic absorption spectrometry and compared with that of the calibration solutions.

Specimen Detail:

The analytical sample shall be pulverized to pass a 150-μm sieve.

Result:

In this way, by performing ASTM 507-13 under controlled laboratory conditions, aluminum can be easily determined in iron ores by flame atomic absorption spectrometry.
