Scope:
ASTM D7804 is only used for comparative testing using one operator for each set of applications. Fibers that are released during painting can lead to a finish that is aesthetically unacceptable.
Test Procedure:
In test method ASTM D7804, the paint roller cover that is to be evaluated is used to paint a section of sealed test paper. After the paint film has dried, the fibers are counted.
Specimen size:
In ASTM D7804, three identical paint covers of 9 by 1.5 inches diameter core are used.
Data:
The results suggest that if the same person does not complete each test, the precision of this ASTM D7804 test procedure may be unstable. It is not possible to paint the same cover more than once.
Conclusion:
ASTM D7804 is only used for comparative testing using one operator for each set of applications.
