Scope:
The ASTM D6115 test method aims to compare the relative G–N values of composite materials with diverse components quantitatively, and for composite damage tolerance and durability assessments, as local changes in fiber volume fraction were used to quantify the impacts of fiber surface treatment.
Procedure:
For ASTM D6115 testing, the DCB specimen is cycled between a minimum and maximum displacement at a predetermined frequency. The number of displacement cycles at which delamination growth begins, Na, is kept track of. A modified beam theory is used to compute the mode I cyclic strain energy release rate, such as the maximum value, Gimax.
Specimen size:
The ASTM D6115 test specimens should be conditioned at a standard laboratory atmosphere of 23±3°C (73±5°F).
Data:
Pmax can be calculated as:

where:
h = specimen thickness
E11 = modulus elasticity
Conclusion:
The ASTM D6115 test method aims to compare the relative G–N values of composite materials with diverse components quantitatively, and for composite damage tolerance and durability assessments, as local changes in fiber volume fraction were used to quantify the impacts of fiber surface treatment.
