ASTM D3171 Standard Test Method for Constituent Content of Composite Materials
ASTM D3171 uses one of two approaches to determine the constituent content of composite materials. The values are expressed in SI units.
Scope:
ASTM D3171 provides a standard test method to understand the material properties analytically, by understanding the constituent content of a composite material. In order to evaluate the quality of a produced material and the procedures utilized during fabrication, knowledge of the constituent components is also required. The content of reinforcement in the coupon can be utilized to normalize mechanical parameters that are influenced by the quantity of reinforcement in the coupon.

Specimen detail:
One of the data that can be measured and calculated is the content in the composite material,
Wr = (Mf /Mi) × 100
where Wr, Mf, and Mi are the content by weight, final, and initial mass of the specimen (g), respectively.
