Shock and Vibration Testing Services
Shock and vibration tests are done to determine if a material can withstand the various impacts it may experience during handling, transportation, and service. Shock testing involves exposing the specimen to infrequent, short-time, moderately high-level force impulses or temperature changes. Vibration testing measures the specimen’s capability to withstand mechanical vibrations. The two tests can be carried out independently or together.
Shock testing is mainly of two types:
- Mechanical Shock Testing – The specimen is exposed to sudden forces and extreme acceleration or deceleration.
- Thermal Shock Testing – Rapid temperature changes can cause a material to change in size, and shape, or become brittle. In thermal shock testing, the specimen is exposed to rapid temperature swings.
Some of the vibration testing assessments include sinusoidal vibrations, random vibrations, gunfire, shaker induced shock, and bump assessments.
Infinita Labs provides shock and vibration testing services to its clients in the USA and worldwide.
Standards for Shock and Vibration Testing
- IEC 60068-2-27
- MIL-STD-202, 331, 750, 810, 883
- SAE J1455
- EIA-364-27
Advantages of Shock and Vibration Testing
- By putting the material under real-world conditions, we can understand if the material can withstand common transportation and handling mishaps and reach its destination in an undamaged condition.
- This test checks if the material is in compliance with related manufacturing standards.
- It reduces the frequency of product returns.
