Scope:
ASTM A269/A269M-15a test method covers the use of stainless steel tubing for general corrosion-resisting and low or high-temperature service. The method helps determine the mechanical properties of stainless steel tubing. The results obtained from this method help in quality control, research, and performance evaluation of steel tubing.
Procedure:
The specimen is manufactured as per the specified measurements, and limits are specified for the chemical composition of the material. The electric furnace or basic oxygen is used to make steel, whereas a seamless or welding process makes tubing. The analysis is done in accordance with the agreement between the purchaser and the producer. Tensile strength is measured, and heat treatment is applied. Then, a stress-corrosion resistance test hydrostatic or non-destructive tests are performed, and the cracking capabilities of various alloys are tested. The flaring test and the flange test are performed. The method also covers the packaging and certification.
Specimen Size:
Specimen size should be as per the requirements. The tubing sizes and thicknesses usually furnished to this specification are 1⁄4 in. (6.4 mm) in inside diameter and larger and 0.020 in. [0.51 mm] in nominal wall-thickness and heavier.
Data:
The method covers the certification, sampling, testing, and inspection of the specimen within the set limits.
Conclusion:
ASTM A269/A269M-15a test method is specifically important for the quality assurance and durability check of stainless steel tubing.
