Ignition Loss Test of Cured Reinforced Resins by ASTM D2584 is done in cured reinforced resins to evaluate the fiber content remaining after burning. This helps in evaluating the composition of the test material.
Scope:
ASTM D2584 test determines ignition loss of cured reinforced resins by evaluating the fiber content remaining after burning. The ignition loss obtained can be considered resin content if only glass reinforcement and organic resin are present in the product.
Test Procedure:
Ignition Loss Test of Cured Reinforced Resins by ASTM D2584 includes conditioning of three specimens of 5 g (2.5 inch × 2.5 inch × thickness) at quality laboratory conditions for 40 hours at minimum. The weight of specimens is then measured on an analytical weighing balance nearest to 0.1 mg. After that, the specimens are placed in pre-weighed and pre-dried ceramic or metal containers and placed in a furnace at 565°C ± 28°C until all carbonaceous materials vanish. Crucibles are then cooled in a desiccator. Finally, ignition loss p is calculated after weighing the crucibles.
Specimen size:
Specimens weighing 5 g of approximate dimension 2.5 inch × 2.5 inch × required thickness
Data:
The ignition loss percentage is calculated as:
IL = (w1 – w2) / w1 × 100
w1 = Specimen weight
w2 = Residue weight
Conclusion:
ASTM D2584 is a standard test method used to determine ignition loss of cured reinforced resins.
ASTM E572 test method covers the analysis of stainless and alloy steels by Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (WDXRF). It provides rapid, multi-element determinations with sufficient accuracy to assure product quality.
The ASTM D2674 is a standard test method for the analysis of sulfochromate etches solution used in the surface preparation of aluminum. The ASTM D2674 standard specifies a method for determining the efficacy of an etchant used to prepare the surface of aluminum alloys for subsequent adhesive bonding.
An immunological method for quantization of Hevea Natural Rubber (HNRL) proteins using rabbit anti-HNRL serum. Rabbits immunized with HNRL proteins react to the majority of the proteins present, and their sera have the capability to detect most if not all the proteins in HNRL.
