Silicon, iron, and chrome make up the alloy known as ferro chrome silicon (FeCrSi). The alloy is created during manufacture by smelting equal parts of silica and ore together. Energy consumption per ton of product during the smelting process of reducing silica to silicon is 7,6000 kilowatt-hours. The ideal range for FeCrSi content is 38-42%, with only 0.1% carbon.
