ASTM F2150 Standard Guide for Characterization and Testing of Biomaterial Scaffolds Used in Tissue-Engineered Medical Products

Scope:

The standard guide ASTM F2150 describes the available standard methods for the characterization and testing of biomaterial scaffolds used in Tissues-Engineered Medical Products (TEMPs). The bulk chemical, physical, mechanical, biological, and degradation properties and tests can be conducted to understand the characteristics of the scaffold construct.  In addition, this guide provides the available standard for the characterization of finished medical products. 

Test Procedure:

Biomaterial scaffolds used in TEMPs can be tested by means of chemical, physical, mechanical, biological, and degradation properties, such as identification of impurities, visual image interpretations, compressive properties, and others. Standard test methods are provided in sections 6 to 10 of ASTM F2150.

Test Specimen:

The test specimens are required to comply with the relevant ASTM F2150 test method.

Result:

Obtained test results depend on each relevant test method, such as standard tests of chemical, physical, biological, etc., provided in the F2150 standard guide. General guidelines for precision in testing can be found  in Practices E177, E691, and Terminology E456.
