ASTM E605 – 93 Thickness and Density of Sprayed Fire-Resistive Material

In ASTM E605 – 93, features like density and thickness are fundamental in Sprayed Fire-Resistive Material test. ASTM E605 – 93 is designed to give ways for determining these qualities. The test methods are carried out in both the laboratory and the field.
A thickness gauge, scales, steel rules, and templates are used to determine the basic parameters of density and thickness. The thickness is determined by inserting the thickness gage’s penetrating pin perpendicular to and through the sprayed fire-resistive material, and the density is determined by executing a series of tests on protected parts of the specimen.
Sprayed fire-resistive material shall be applied to 1.5 mm (0.06 in. (16 ga.) bare or galvanized steel plates with dimensions of 400 by 400 mm (16 by 16 in.).

Where D is density, kg/m3 (lb. /ft3), W is the constant weight of dried material, kg (lb.), 1 is the length of the specimen, m (ft.), w is the width of the specimen, m (ft.), and t is the average thickness of the specimen, m (ft.).
