ASTM B209 Method for Standard Specification for Aluminum and Aluminum-Alloy Sheet and Plate

Scope:

ASTM B209 Method covers aluminium and aluminium-alloy flat sheet, coiled sheet, and plate in the alloys and tempers. The material is supplied in the mill finish, and it is to be uniform as defined by the requirements of the specification. Plate in all alloys and sheet in heat-treatable alloys: mill finish. Sheet in non-heat-treatable alloys: mill finish, one-side bright mill finish, standard one-side bright finish, and standard two-side bright finish.

Test Procedure:

ASTM B209 Method performs Quality Assurance by specifying inspection lot and test requirements specified. An inspection lot shall be defined as follows: 

1. For the heat-treated tempers, an inspection lot consists of an identifiable quantity of material of the same mill form, alloy, temper, and thickness traceable to a heat-treat lot or lots and subject to inspection at one time. 

2. For the non-heat-treated tempers, an inspection lot shall consist of an identifiable quantity of material of the same mill form, alloy, temper, and thickness subjected to inspection at one time.

Specimen size:

The specimens shall be a minimum of 50 mm by 100 mm with the 100-mm dimension in a plane parallel to the direction of final rolling.

Unalloyed aluminium contains a minimum of 99.00 % aluminium.
