Horizontal Compression Integrity Testing

Horizontal Compression Integrity Testing is a method of evaluating the strength and protection of a container or package. It tests the ability of a container to endure compressive stresses that may occur during storage a nd distribution. The results of the test may lead to cost-effective distribution, product launch confidence, improved consumer satisfaction and market share, and a decrease in product-to-market time. Horizontal Compression Integrity Testing

Horizontal Compression Integrity Testing is a method of testing the strength and protection of a container or package. It assesses a container’s ability to withstand compressive stress that may occur during storage and distribution. Failing to properly package items can lead to expensive losses in customer loyalty, sales, and delays. However, conducting these tests can lead to cost-effective distribution, product launch confidence, improved satisfaction, and a decrease in the time to get a product to the market.

The ISO 2233 and ASTM D4332 standards are used to condition the package depending on the test method. Sample size should be chosen that matches the production size. Clamp testers or compression machines are used to perform the test. The platens of the clamp tester must be larger than the test item’s sides, and the loaded applicator of the compression machine must be greater than the sample face. Once the test is complete, the results are reported including content and interior packaging descriptions, specimen-specific test results, and the test equipment identification.
