    Scope:

    The ASTM D3575 test method applies to flexible closed cell materials made of olefin polymers or olefin polymer blends with other polymers. The data obtained by these test methods apply to the material under conditions of the particular test. They are not necessarily the same as obtained in other environments or use conditions.

    Procedure:

    The ASTM D3575 standard offers a list of all the allocated suffix letters that are used to describe the cellular products that are tested. There aren’t enough test methods for all of the suffix letters mentioned. If the test technique is not included, the purchaser and supplier must work out a solution. The appropriate section numbers are shown after the suffix letter, to indicate which test methods are covered in this standard. SI units must be utilized in the circumstances involving referee judgments.

    Specimen size:

    As per ASTM D3575, the specimens should have two or more flat steel or aluminum plates of sufficient thickness to prevent deflection of the leaves under load to make up a compression device.

    Data:

    The following formula is used in ASTM D3575 testing to calculate the compression:

    Cd = compression set expressed as a percent of the original thickness, 
    to = actual thickness, mm (in.), and 
    tf = thickness of the specimen after the specified recovery period, mm.
