ASTM C158-02 Determination of Modulus of Rupture of Glass
ASTM C158-02 measures the modulus of rupture, also known as the transverse flexural strength or flexural strength of glass and glass-ceramics, which is the maximum load capacity material can hold before it breaks. The center point loading test apparatus is used to measure the modulus of rupture and is expressed in the units of pounds per square inch (psi) and pascals or megapascals.

Scope:
ASTM C158-02 provides a parameter for the development of structural materials and includes information about the durability and resistance of the glass. The test is pertinent to prestress and annealed glass-ceramics. The flexural strength of glass is affected by certain variables linked to the test procedure like test environment, rate of stress, and the area under pressure.
Procedure:
In ASTM C158-02, load force F is applied to the glass. The glass is slightly elevated from the ground, and load force F is applied on the center of the beam of the glass. Using the experimental setup of the center point loading test, the flexural strength of glass is observed and analyzed for assessing all the parameters.
Specimen Size :
For ASTM C158-01, the specimen length should be 0.5 inches or 12.7 mm (minimum length). The width of the glass should be at least 9.5 mm. The recommended value for the width to thickness ratio is in the range of 2:1 to 10:1.
Data:
In ASTM C158-02, the modulus of rupture σr is calculated by using the following equation
σr=3Fx/yz2
where F denotes the load force (pounds/newton) while x, y, andz are the size dimensions in three directions taken in inches or millimeters.
Conclusion:
ASTM C158-02 measures the modulus of rupture, also known as the transverse flexural strength or flexural strength of glass and glass-ceramics, which is the maximum load capacity a material can hold before it breaks.
ASTM E572 test method covers the analysis of stainless and alloy steels by Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (WDXRF). It provides rapid, multi-element determinations with sufficient accuracy to assure product quality.
The ASTM D2674 test is a standard test method for the analysis of sulfochromate etch solutions used in the surface preparation of aluminum. The ASTM D2674 standard specifies a method for determining the efficacy of an etchant used to prepare the surface of aluminum alloys for subsequent adhesive bonding.
An immunological method for quantization of Hevea Natural Rubber (HNRL) proteins using rabbit anti-HNRL serum. Rabbits immunized with HNRL proteins react to the majority of the proteins present, and their sera have the capability to detect most if not all the proteins in HNRL.
ASTM G65 measures the resistance of metallic materials to abrasion using the dry sand/rubber wheel apparatus. The quality, durability, and toughness of the sample are determined using this test. Metallic materials are ranked in their resistance to scratching abrasion under a controlled environment.
ASTM E2141 test methods provide accelerated aging and monitoring of the performance of time-dependent electrochromic devices (ECD) integrated in insulating glass units (IGU). This test helps to understand the relative serviceability of electrochromic glazings applied on ECD.
ASTM C724 test method is used in analyzing the quality and ease of maintenance of a ceramic decoration on architectural-type glass. This test method is useful in the acknowledgment of technical standards.
