Chemical analysis of metals is necessary to know the desired physical, mechanical, and corrosion properties of the metal. It can be of qualitative as well as quantitative type. In the qualitative type, the compounds and elements (their functional group) are identified. In the quantitative type, the amount of different substances present is measured with an exact numerical amount or concentration. Plain carbon steel, tool steel, cast iron, stainless steel nickel/copper /aluminum/zinc base alloys and many more are the alloys and metals used in chemical analysis of metals. 

Various test methods such as Inductive Coupled Plasma (ICP) analysis, Optical Emission Spectrography (OES) analysis, and Gravimetric Analysis (GA) are among the qualitative and quantitative methods for the analysis of metals. Such different tests require sample quantity accordingly which requires abrasive cutting if the sample is too small in size.
