Analytical Chemistry

Analytical chemistry is the study of the properties, composition, and identification of materials. Techniques such as ch romatography, spectroscopy, and heavy metal analysis are used to test for residual plasticizers, flame retardants, metals, polymers, and compounds. Additionally, it is used for food and nutrition, environmental impact, military, and GreenSeal certifications.... Read More

    Test of Analytical chemistry

Analytical chemistry is a field of study focused on understanding the properties and composition of materials and substances. At its core, it is driven by the need to measure, identify, quantify, and characterize the various physical, chemical, and biological properties of these materials. In particular, the study of chromatography, heavy metals, spectroscopy, foods and nutrition, environmental impact, and materials testing are all integral components of analytical chemistry.

Chromatography is a technique used to separate and identify components in a mixture. Gas Chromatography (GC) and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) are two of the most common methods used and are employed to test for residual plasticizers, uncured monomers/oligomers, off-taste/odor compounds, and flame retardants. Additionally, a comprehensive Quality Control program can be designed to ensure accurate testing of incoming raw materials and/or final products.

The study of heavy metals is also an important part of analytical chemistry. Analyzing heavy metals is done in accordance with EPA, ASTM, and RoHS specifications and is done using various instruments such as DC Plasma Emission, Graphite Furnace AA, Ion-Chromatography, and X-Ray Fluorescence. Additionally, high-pressure microwave digestion can be employed to ensure a 100% recovery rate of all metals.

Spectroscopy is another essential component of analytical chemistry and is used to characterize polymers, resins, and compounds, as well as to conduct quality control testing of incoming raw materials and toxicity studies. This is done using FT-IR, UV-VIS, and Fluorescence spectroscopy, which all comply with ASTM, ISO, and EU standards. Additionally, color testing, UV-Inhibitor testing, and chemical permeability can all be done using UV-Vis Scanning Spectrophotometry with GC.

Finally, analytical chemistry is also used to evaluate Military, Food and Nutrition, and Environmental Impact and Assessment. Specific tests that fall under this category include GreenSeal, CODEX, USP/NF Specs for Phthalate, BPA, Heavy Metals, and VOC/HAP content, as well as EPA and State DEP regulations, HACCP and Organic food validation, and MIL-STD 810G, IEC, ISO, and ASTM Guidelines.
