UL 263 Fire Resistance Rating

The UL 263 fire resistance rating test is a North American standard and is utilized for evaluating the fire protection and safety codes in steel structures. This standard is designed to examine the time it takes for specific types of installations to prevent a fire, preserve structural integrity, or both, based on the category of assembly used during a defined test exposure. The standards were created to simulate fires in commercial buildings such as workplaces, hospitals, and educational facilities.
The UL 263 fire resistance rating test is performed by placing a portion of pre-constructed assembly in a test furnace. The temperature within the furnace rises with fixed intervals of time. The temperature reaches 1000 oF after 5 minutes and reaches 2000 oF at 4 hours. According to the standard, the steel structure is tested for fire and hose steam in certain instances.
