Thermal property testing includes testing a material’s thermal resistance, thermal resistivity, thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, and thermal effusivity:

  • Thermal Resistance Testing:

Thermal resistance is the ratio of the temperature difference between two sides of a material to the rate of heat flow per unit area. It is the property of a material to resist heat flow. In thermal resistance testing, the specimen is placed on a hot plate which is then placed in a chamber maintained at a specified relative humidity and comparatively lower temperature. The heat from the hot plate dissipates into the chamber through the specimen due to the temperature difference between the plate and chamber. The thermal resistance of the specimen is calculated by measuring the heat flow through it.

  • Specific Heat Capacity Testing:

SHC testing measures the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of a unit mass of a specimen. It can be calculated by differential scanning calorimetry.
