NFPA 80

The effectiveness of a fire protection system depends on fire doors. By restricting fire flow, they safeguard lives and property. They can also restrict the passage of harmful gasses and smoke, depending on the particular fire door assembly.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) mandates annual fire door inspections under the NFPA 80 Standard to help guarantee fire doors work safely. To prove compliance, building owners and managers must maintain written records of all fire door inspections.

At Infinita Labs, we offer quick, dependable NFPA 80 testing to assess the functioning of your fire doors and assist you in remaining compliant.

The NFPA 80 Test: What Is It?

The national standard for fire door safety is established by NFPA 80. It outlines the essential specifications for the installation, testing, and upkeep of fire doors as well as other opening guards such as windows and fire shutters.

For your convenience, Infinita Labs provides a fire door drop test to keep you in compliance. After a fire door installation or repair, a drop test is required. To make sure the door functions effectively in a fire event, NFPA 80 additionally mandates that the test be carried out at least once a year.

The Way We Run Our NFPA 80 Test

A visual inspection, an operational check, and two drop tests are all included in our test, one to ensure the door closes properly and the other to ensure the linkage resets properly.

To make sure the door is placed correctly, we check for the right bolts, jamb attachments, fusible link placements, and other details during the visual inspection. Along with inspecting auxiliary equipment like control panels and release devices, we also search for broken or missing pieces.

The door is then put to the test to check sure it opens and closes smoothly and fully. We’ll conduct the drop tests by the manufacturer’s recommendations if your door passes the operational and visual inspections. Your door must fall at least 6 inches per second and not more than 24 inches per second to comply.

You’ll get an official test form with your results once we’ve decided whether your fire door complies or not. You’ll also get a certification sticker with the inspection and testing dates if your door passes the tests.
