Cyclic Moisture Resistance Testing
Cyclic moisture resistance testing evaluates the resistance of materials to the negative effects of heat and humidity. Such damaging temperature and humidity environments are mainly experienced in tropical regions. In such environments, materials such as insulators and metals deteriorate resulting in changes in electrical properties and corrosion as these materials absorb moisture.
The MIL-STD-883 standard’s test method 1004 describes the test procedure for moisture resistance testing. The test is carried out in an accelerated manner to determine the resistance of the specimen to the deteriorative effects of high humidity and temperature. It employs temperature cycling, i.e. alternate periods of condensation and drying, to recreate the process of corrosion. To intensify the effect of humidity, the test can also be carried out at higher temperatures.
The apparatus used for the MIL-STD-883 cyclic moisture resistance test includes a temperature-humidity chamber that can maintain the required test environment. Prior to mounting the specimen, the device leads are subjected to bending stress. The specimen is mounted in such a way that it is completely exposed to the test environment and is subjected to ten continuous 24-hour test cycles.

ASTM E572 test method covers the analysis of stainless and alloy steels by Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (WDXRF). It provides rapid, multi-element determinations with sufficient accuracy to assure product quality.
The ASTM D2674 test is a standard test method for the analysis of sulfochromate etch solutions used in the surface preparation of aluminum. The ASTM D2674 standard specifies a method for determining the efficacy of an etchant used to prepare the surface of aluminum alloys for subsequent adhesive bonding.
