Scope:
ASTM E606/E606M – 12 can be used for hourglass specimens and is related to temperature and strain rate. The test technique can also guide testing in more general situations, such as when strain or temperature varies depending on the application’s history. Mechanical design, materials research and development, process and quality control, product performance, and failure analysis all benefit from the results of strain-controlled fatigue tests.
Procedure
Using an optical comparator or other optical means, measure the diameter at the center of the gauge section to an accuracy of 0.0125 mm [0.0005 in.]. Micro cracking, force decrease, and test duration were all measured after that in ASTM E606/E606M –12. Finally, we analyzed the data.
Specimen size
In the test section, both specimens should have a solid circular cross-section with minimum diameters of 6.35 mm [0.25 in.].
