ASTM D6099-18 Determination of Acidity in Moderate to High Acidity Aromatic Isocyanates
ASTM D6099-18 test method determines the properties of polyurethane prepolymer and aromatic isocyanates by measuring the acidity expressed as ppm of hydrochloric acid with the acidity content being 100 ppm. This test method also provides details about toluene diisocyanate and methylene bis(4-phenyl isocyanate). The final results of this test method are expressed in SI units.

Scope:
ASTM D6099-18 test method determines the acidity of aromatic isocyanates and polyurethanes. This test method is important to get accurate readings at different sample concentrations. It defines a standard to control the quality of aromatic isocyanates. It characterizes the aromatic isocyanates and moderate to high acidity prepolymers and is applicable for research purposes. The acidic content provides information about the performance of isocyanates in polyurethane systems which helps specify their reliability. This method resolved the problems with moderate to high-level acidity determination.
Procedure:
The apparatus consists of beakers, pipet, automatic titration equipment, reference electrode, pH glass electrode, magnetic stirrer, watch glasses, and analytical balance in setting up. The sample is weighed and taken in a 250mL beaker. 50mL of dried toluene is poured in. 100mL of methanol is added to the solution. The solution is mixed with a stir bar and covered with a watch glass. The sample is allowed to cool at room temperature. The acidic content is determined through potentiometric titration with methanolic KOH. The difference in titer helps detect the acidity of aromatic isocyanates. The endpoints, along with the pH, are determined.
Specimen Size:
10 g of sample is poured into a 250 mL beaker.
Data:
The acidity, as ppm HCl, is calculated by applying the formula Where: Vsam = volume of titrant needed for the sample, mL, N = normality of the titrant solution, and F = 36 465 (mol weight of HCl) × 1000 (factor to change mg/g to μg/g, that is, ppm).
ASTM E572 test method covers the analysis of stainless and alloy steels by Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (WDXRF). It provides rapid, multi-element determinations with sufficient accuracy to assure product quality.
The ASTM D2674 test is a standard test method for the analysis of sulfochromate etch solutions used in the surface preparation of aluminum. The ASTM D2674 standard specifies a method for determining the efficacy of an etchant used to prepare the surface of aluminum alloys for subsequent adhesive bonding.
An immunological method for quantization of Hevea Natural Rubber (HNRL) proteins using rabbit anti-HNRL serum. Rabbits immunized with HNRL proteins react to the majority of the proteins present, and their sera have the capability to detect most if not all the proteins in HNRL.
ASTM G65 measures the resistance of metallic materials to abrasion using the dry sand/rubber wheel apparatus. The quality, durability, and toughness of the sample are determined using this test. Metallic materials are ranked in their resistance to scratching abrasion under a controlled environment.
ASTM E2141 test methods provide accelerated aging and monitoring of the performance of time-dependent electrochromic devices (ECD) integrated in insulating glass units (IGU). This test helps to understand the relative serviceability of electrochromic glazings applied on ECD.
ASTM C724 test method is used in analyzing the quality and ease of maintenance of a ceramic decoration on architectural-type glass. This test method is useful in the acknowledgment of technical standards.
