    Scope:

    This test method has a strong discriminating power and measures viscosity and elasticity-related parameters under low shear circumstances. It is capable of detecting minute rheological changes. The results of this test method may be valuable in forecasting processability, but because conditions vary so much the correlation between actual manufacturing processes must be proven in each case. This test method can be of use for compliance, quality control, refereeing, and research and development.

    Test Procedure:

    In ASTM D6049, the test temperature should be 105 ±1 °C (221 ±2 °F). Individual test pieces were centered between the parallel plates during the test. The test item is compressed to a height of 7.0 mm (0.28 in.) with a constant force. The test piece height is measured in 0.1 mm (0.004 in.) increments for the first recovery cycle. In most cases, testing a single test component is sufficient.

    Test Specimen:

    The diameter of the compression device should be 30.0 ±0.1 mm and a thickness of at least 2 mm.
