ASTM D5994/D5994M Measuring Core Thickness of Textured Geomembranes 

Scope:

ASTM D5994/D5994M covers all commercially available textured geomembranes deployed as manufactured geomembrane sheets. Many geomembranes have thickness as their basic index parameter for controlling and tracking their quality.

Test Procedure:

In ASTM D5994/D5994M, the core thickness of a textured geomembrane is determined as the average value of calculations taken on replicate specimens of the sample under investigation. The thickness of each specimen is measured at a specific location as the distance between two-gauge points. The opposing thickness gauge points are manufactured to a defined geometry, with a specified force applied along their axis.

Specimen Size

For ASTM D5994/D5994M, the specimens should have a temperature equilibrium of 21 ± 2 °C [70 ± 4 °F] and relative humidity of 60 ± 10 %.

Data

The average thickness of the sample is calculated from the individual specimen results and recorded to the nearest 0.025 mm or 0.001 in.
