    The test method provides a detailed procedure to use the wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF) technique to measure the titanium treatment weight on a variety of metal substrates. The measurement of titanium treatment coating weights by WDXRF methods is based on the combined interaction of the titanium coating and the substrate with an intense beam of primary radiation. Total coating weight and titanium weight of titanium-containing treatment can be determined using the ASTM D6906-12a test method.

    Test procedure:

    The test specimens are placed firmly and securely on the measuring opening. The titanium calibration standard is then inserted into the instrument as per the recommendation of the treatment supplier. Counts are obtained for the treated specimen. The coating weight is calculated from the counts.

    Specimen size: 

    The test specimens must be flat and free of any burrs or distortions. The treatment on the metal substrate needs to be uniform for the area of measurement. The coated area of the specimen must be larger than the measuring area.
